Description
Our KB A-34 Blend is has all the things people love about Kentucky Blue, but with some extra perks. Like KB, it is a fine-to-medium textured, cool season grass that tolerates cold, heat and shade well. It is also resistant to disease and insects. This highly recuperative blend is perfect for athletic fields, golf courses and other areas with a lot of traffic.

Application

Kentucky Bluegrass is the most beautiful and hardy of the cool- season grasses. Bluegrass is used for both residential and commercial lawns. Also widely used for athletic fields and parks

COLOR & TEXTURE

Medium blue- green color. Medium-fine blades, with high grass plant density and excellent leaf uniformity; superior weed resistance.

SOIL TYPE

Performs best in moist, well drained, fertile, medium-textured soils. Kentucky Bluegrass has performed well in clay, loam and sandy soils. It is very adaptive and will succeed in most soils in Colorado. Problem soils include high salt content and soils that don't drain well.

MOWING

As low as 0.5″ in direct sun; 2.5 inches in shade. Never mow off more than 1/3 the blade height. Keep cutting blades sharp to prevent leaf tearing which can lead to fungal problems and poor visual quality. Frequency should be 2 to 3 times per week.

WATERING

Newly planted turf should be watered daily and soaked thoroughly to a depth of 3 inches for the first 10 to 14 days to avoid dry out. Thereafter as needed to prevent visual wilt or foot prints are still visible 30 minutes after walking on the grass.

FERTILIZATION

Average weekly water requirement for a Lawn in Colorado:
April May June July Aug Sept Oct
.25 .75 1.25 1.25 1 .75 .5

0.4 to 0.8 pounds of actual nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. per growing month when combined with recommended phosphorous and potassium. Avoid N applications during hot dry months (July-August) this will only increase plant demands for water. A good rule of thumb is to think holidays (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor day and Halloween) Good slow release fertilizer can be applied around each of these holidays. If you want to cut water requirements substitute Iron or micronutrients for the July application. Good balanced fertilizer 15-15-15-3F, 21-14-5-3F or 20-20-10-3F. Halloween application should be a good quality winterizer.
