Description
Pets age differently than humans, and the lifespan of a cat versus a dog is quite different. When determining the relative age of your pet, it can be difficult to make a clear assessment on your own. For dogs, you must take into account not only actual age but size. And with cats, you'll find they mature a great deal in early years and again later in life.

Senior citizen pets should consider a complete senior work-up to assess their progressive health and age. We believe in emphasizing preventative medicine instead of crisis management. In other words, we would like to help your aging pet before serious problems occur. Those telltale changes in your pet - slowing down, lack of appetite, or trouble urinating - could be indicative of medical problems that require attention. Through advanced veterinary diagnostics, we can offer your pet a better quality of life during the 'golden years'.

Questions arising regarding your pet's health are most likely similar to those you ask about your own, especially when aging is involved. We want you to know we are here to answer those questions for you to your satisfaction so that you may be an advocate of good health in your pet's golden years as well.

During the months of September, October, and November, we are offering a 10% discount on the following packages:

  • Full Physical Exam, which includes an oral exam, examination of the heart and lungs, palpation of the abdomen and checking the eyes and ears for abnormalities.
  • Urinalysis to provide important information about the functioning capacity of the kidneys. In addition, urine contains by-products from many organs and abnormal levels of these by-products can indicate disease of organs such as the liver and kidney or may be indicative of diabetes.
  • Thoracic Radiographs (Chest X-rays) allow us to examine the heart for any changes in size and shape, which tends to happen in aging pets and may require treatment.
  • EKG (Electrocardiogram) can check the heart for any arrhythmias or abnormalities.
  • Complete Bloodwork (including Thyroid) to check the Glucose levels (diabetes), liver, kidney, and cardiac (heart) functions. Just like people, it is common for our older pets to have changes in their body's functions, and identifying these for immediate treatment can lengthen your pet's life.
  • Tear Production Test. It is very common for older pets to have a decrease in tear production causing permanent eye damage. We check to make sure that your pet's tear production is normal.
  • Intraocular Pressure Test checks for Glaucoma. Just as in people, Glaucoma is a major cause of eye problems and possible vision loss in senior pets.
