Western Sword

Polystichum munitum, the sword fern, is, as a native of western North America, what Polystichum acrostichoides, the Christmas fern, is to eastern growers i.e. a ubiquitous, dependable and excellent option for beginners or experts. It is a reliable evergreen with sword like fronds and is unfazed by the vagaries of weather or even soil conditions. By contrast it is a reluctant inhabitant in eastern gardens. Look for this two to five footer while enjoying woodland walks and use it to create your own woodland garden experience. It adapts readily to western Zones 6 - 9.
